چکیده
The increasing prevalence of drug-resistant pathogens has gained the attention of pharmaceutical and scientific communities towards potential antimicrobial agents from plant derived sources. The present research work has been undertaken to study the antimicrobial activity of the methanol extract of Psoralea corylifolia L. against some human pathogens like Escherichia coii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhimurium Staphylococcus aureus, Shigella flexneri, Streptococcus pneamoniae, Klebsiella pneumonia and fungi Aspergillus niger by using agar well diffusion method. Inhibition zones ranged between 4.l2 ± 0.22 16.24 ± 0.11 mm. Fruit extract inhibited the growth of all tested microorganisms with large zones of inhibition. The standard antibiotics chloramphenicol and miconuzole nitrate were found to have zone of inhibitions 10.05 ±0.12-24.12 ±0.20 mm at the concentration of 30 ug/ml. In contrast, the inhibition zone of methanol (negative control) was almost zero for all the tested microorganisms. The spectrum activity of methanolic extract of this plant could be a possible source to obtain new and effective herbal medicines to treat various infectious diseases.

Psoralea corylifolia (P. corylifolia) is a medicinal plant used primarily in herbal dietary supplements to treat skin diseases, such as vitiligo and psoriasis. Case reports of liver toxicity have recently emerged from its use, which often includes co-administration with other herbal products. In this study, CYP3A4 inhibition and hepatotoxicity of P. corylifolia and its major components were eva...
متن کاملEvaluation of a Novel Herbal Formulation in the Treatment of Eczema with Psoralea Corylifolia
Background: We studied the efficacy of an herbal semisolid formulation, prepared from hexane extract of seeds of Psoralea Corylifolia, which has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, in the treatment of eczema. Methods: Extraction of seeds of Psoralea Corylifolia was done in Soxhlet apparatus using hexane as the solvent. Furthermore, Oil in Water (O/W) cream was formulated with a stea...
متن کاملConstituents of Psoralea corylifolia Fruits and Their Effects on Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
Two new flavonoids, bakuisoflavone (1) and bakuflavanone (2), together with 15 known compounds, were isolated from the fruits of Psoralea corylifolia, and their structures were characterized by spectroscopic data. The effects of the isolated compounds on methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus were also examined. We found that two compounds, isobavachalcone (10) and bakuchiol (12), showed n...
متن کاملInvestigation of the Antibacterial Activity of Psoralea Corylifolia Leaf and Callus Extracts against Multidrug Resistant Periodontal Disease Causing Microorganisms
Some specific microorganisms have been identified as etiologic agents of periodontitis. The main goal of treatment is to control the spread of infection. Depending on the extent of the gum disease, treatment varies. Therapeutic antibiotic along with surgery are the most opted form of treatment. But, due to high costs of antibiotics, the disastrous side effects and emergence of multi drug resist...
متن کاملA simple spectrofluorometric estimation of psoralen from Psoralea corylifolia (l.) (Bavchi) seeds
A simple, accurate ,precise, sensitive spectrofluorometric method was developed for estimation of psoralen in methanolic extract of Psoralea corylifolia seeds. It showed strong intense blue fluorescence having excitation and emission wavelength 290nm and 427.66 nm, respectively. Linear relationship for the fluorescence intensity was obtained in the range 50-100 μg /mL. Limit of detection and li...
